Another council meeting, another announcement of a business coming to northern Peru.

Martin Equipment will build a new building on May Road, near East First Road (Donlar Avenue).

“We do appreciate Martin Equipment locating in Peru,” said Alderman Dave Potthoff. “This can be a pretty significant tax boost for the city.”

Corporate counsel Doug Schweickert said the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously recommended council approve the zoning ordinances for properties located at 2901, 2931 and 2951 May Road.

Per the new ordinance, the property would be used for repair maintenance testing and sale of construction and agricultural equipment, Schweickert said.

“The petitioner of the site would sell both new and used equipment,” he said.

Alderman Mike Radtke said he has noticed an influx of new businesses recently.

“It seems there’s a lot of interest in that northwest area,” he said.

City engineer Eric Carls said more details will be known about the new, 20,000-square-foot building after it goes before the design review committee.

“We know the asphalt milling area is where they’ll store the large equipment,” he said.

Carls said the future site of the building is currently vacant land.

“I wouldn’t even call it farm land,” Carls said. “It’s just vacant land.”
